ANKARA, March 22 — The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) said that Turkish Olympic gold medalist Asli Cakir Alptekin was one of the eight athletes who tested positive for banned substances, local media reported on Friday.
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) had passed the issue to the Turkish Athletics Federation, calling on the authorities to punish the athlete.
Cakir Alptekin, who won the 1,500-meter in the 2012 London Olympic Games, may face a lifetime ban if she is found to have tested positive.
Before that, she had been punished by a two-year ban starting in 2004 due to banned substances.
